Families, Food and Fitness
May 2012 Conference Call Agenda
May 15, 2012, 1pm Central
Participants: Kathleen Morgan, Alice Henneman, Angelia Clinton, Ashley Fondren, Carolyn Dunn, Joanne Kinsey, Bethany Dougherty, Wanda Koszewski
1. Responses from 5 family CoPs, (Super CoP) feedback
- The super CoP will be more “discoverable”. The feedback from FFF CoP members showed that because of lack of funding it might be best to join together.
- The Super Family CoP Optimization application would hire a 2/3rds time project manager for the entire CoP if funding is awarded.
- Joining together may give us another audience & increase site traffic.
- There may or may not be a name change
- There will be a new form of “Ask The Expert” and it will be much more streamlined than it currently is right now.
- On the optimization call recently, someone suggested: Instead of the individual CoPs trying to optimize our own site it may be more efficient and accurate for the eXtension staff to look at our site & tell us what needs to be improved.
- Content Appraisal is complete but there are broken links that need to be repaired or updated.
- Most of the other CoPs scores were in the 2s but ours were in the 4s, so it’s important to have an expert group of evaluators to look at our site & give us scores.
2. Call for articles – specifications
- It may be good to make a list of topic areas that need to be written.
- Pinterest articles—very popular social site. Alice Henneman agreed to write an article about how to use.
- Family Meals, sugary drinks,
- Sugary drink summit in Washington June 7th & 8th
- Could we do “ARTICLE OF THE DAY” or “ARTICLE OF THE WEEK” through our social sites? Angelia is creating a list of themes to highlight content currently on the FFF CoP site. We’ll try to do a theme each week & make it appropriate to the time of year.
- We could add a questionnaire that’s related to the article that we post and generate viewer feedback. à Could serve as a talking point for parents & grandparents about nutrition topics regarding children and grandchildren. Could collaborate with a Just In Time Parenting CoP.
- Goal: Create conversation around article postings. Helps to engage users in content and internalize message.
3. Webinar with Jenny Fisher (after January 2013)
- Dr. Fisher has a timeline of completion in the first week of June.
- If the CoPs merge, it will happen in January.
- May want to wait to release interactive and articles after January.
4. Weight of the Nation
- There was mention of sugary drinks, early education, worksite wellness, food systems, and early care.
- BirdsEye invested money over the next 3 years to encourage kids to eat more vegetables (GenVeg)
- Also, they will distribute 50 million coupons & bring 2 new vegetable products to the market.
- Sesame Workshop presented the Sesame Street muppets conveying healthy messages such as the Cookie Monster character that only wanted cookies but knew the importance of eating vegetables.
- If you had to pick two places to put your energy & efforts, Weight of the Nation encouraged involvement in Worksite wellness & schools because that’s where you get the most numbers.
5. Two Herb series videos completed (Ways to Share)
- Views on Vimeo have increased because Alice posted it on the University of Nebraska website throughout the state.
- Healthy Herbs: Pesto & Healthy Herbs: Chives http://www.extension.org/pages/62857/families-food-and-fitness-informative-videos
- Currently working on a video about Mint
6. Anything Else…
- Carolyn Dunn has a new ILSI project that looks at comparing processed foods with fresh, 125 pairs of foods and their value. Carolyn will be involved in an Extension application phase that the CoP may want to be involved with. Will be ongoing over the next 12-15 months.
